ผลของน้ำข่าต่อการเปลี่ยนแปลงโครงสร้างของหัวใจในหนูแรทเพศผู้

Abstract

ข่า (Alpinia galanga) เป็นสมุนไพรที่นิยมบริโภคในชีวิตประจำวันและมีรายงานฤทธิ์ทางชีวภาพหลากหลาย อย่างไรก็ตามข้อมูลด้านความปลอดภัยต่อโครงสร้างหัวใจ โดยเฉพาะในรูปแบบการบริโภคจริงยังมีจำกัด การศึกษานี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อประเมินผลของน้ำข่าต่อการเปลี่ยนแปลงโครงสร้างหัวใจทั้งในระดับมหกายวิภาคและจุลกายวิภาคในหนูแรทเพศผู้สายพันธุ์วิสตาร์ หนูทดลองถูกแบ่งเป็น 2 กลุ่ม กลุ่มละ 5 ตัว ได้แก่ กลุ่มควบคุมและกลุ่มที่ได้รับน้ำข่าขนาด 400 มิลลิกรัมต่อน้ำหนักตัว 1 กิโลกรัมต่อวันเป็นเวลา 14 วัน จากนั้นประเมินลักษณะเชิงกายภาพของหัวใจและลักษณะทางจุลกายวิภาคของเซลล์กล้ามเนื้อหัวใจด้วยวิธีการย้อม hematoxylin และ eosin (H&E) พบว่ากลุ่มที่ได้รับน้ำข่ามีน้ำหนักและความยาวของหัวใจลดลงอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ ขณะที่ความหนาของผนังหัวใจไม่แตกต่างกันในระดับจุลกายวิภาคพบว่าขนาดเซลล์กล้ามเนื้อหัวใจเพิ่มขึ้นอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ ขณะที่อัตราส่วนนิวเคลียสต่อไซโตพลาสซึมลดลงและพบความสัมพันธ์เชิงบวกระหว่างขนาดเซลล์กล้ามเนื้อหัวใจกับน้ำหนักหัวใจเฉพาะในกลุ่มที่ได้รับน้ำข่าสรุปว่าการได้รับน้ำข่าอย่างต่อเนื่องทำให้เกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลงของหัวใจทั้งในระดับมหกายวิภาคและจุลกายวิภาคผลการศึกษานี้ให้ข้อมูลเบื้องต้นเกี่ยวกับความปลอดภัยของการบริโภคน้ำข่าในรูปแบบใกล้เคียงการใช้จริงเพื่อนำไปศึกษาต่อยอดในอนาคต

Alpinia galanga is a commonly used medicinal herb with a wide range of biological activities. However, information regarding its effects on cardiac structure, particularly under conditions that reflect actual consumption, remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of galangal decoction on cardiac structural changes at gross and microscopic level in male Wistar rats. The rats were randomly divided into two groups (n = 5 per group): a control and a galangal-treated group. The treated group received galangal decoction at 400 mg/kg body weight per day for 14 days. Cardiac physical characteristics and myocardial histology were assessed using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining. The galangal-treated group showed significantly reduced heart weight and length, while ventricular wall thickness was unchanged. At the microscopic level, cardiomyocyte size significantly increased, whereas the nucleus-to-cytoplasm ratio decreased. A positive correlation between cardiomyocyte size and heart weight was observed only in the treated group. In conclusion, continuous intake of galangal decoction induced cardiac structural change sat gross and microscopic levels. The results provide preliminary data on the cardiac safety of galangal consumption and support further investigation.
