Abstract:
At the end of Eastern Han Dynasty, Zhang Zhongjing wrote, “The Treatise on Febrile and Miscellaneous Disease”. According to the thesis, the treatment of accumulated thoracic syndrome is one of the most important. Although the name of this syndrome is not currently in use, but the modern clinical application of the theory of accumulated thoracic syndrome is widely accepted. Hence, the aim of this research is to conduct a systematic and intensive study of the treatment of accumulated thoracic syndrome from ancient classic literature and modern anatomic and pathologic study, in order to provide an accurate and reliable information to support Daxianxiong decoction and the prescription of Daxianxiong pills in clinical application. Via the differential diagnosis research found the etiology and pathogenesis of accumulated thoracic syndrome is accumulation of pathogenic heat and water on the outside of the gastrointestinal tract, corresponding with modern anatomy of a peritoneum. Peritoneum can secrete and absorb fluid in peritoneal cavity, hence treatments of this syndrome are “conquering the heat” and “breaking through the water”, demonstrated through Daxianxiongtang decoction and the prescription of Daxianxiong pills.
