Abstract

พีระ สุธรรม นักเขียนจากแดนอีสาน ผู้ฝากผลงานเขียนภาษาอังกฤษและได้รับการตีพิมพ์ซ้ำจำนวนหลายเรื่อง ทั้งผลงานเรื่องสั้น เรื่องยาวไปจนถึงนิยายชุดต่อเนื่อง 3 เล่ม อันได้แก่ Monsoon Country, The Force of Karma และ Shadowed Country ซึ่งจากชื่อของบทความที่กล่าวถึง “นิยายของพีระ สุธรรม” ในที่นี้หมายถึงผลงานต่อเนื่องชุดนี้ของเขานั่นเอง อนึ่ง บทความชิ้นนี้ศึกษาที่ตัวอย่างของการบรรยายตัวละคร 3 ตัว (เปรม เกียง และธานี) ที่เปลี่ยนไปจาก Monsoon Country ผลงานฉบับแรก และ Shadowed Country ผลงานฉบับปรับปรุงของ Monsoon Country และ The Force of Karma ซึ่งตีพิมพ์ออกมาในปี พ.ศ. 2548

Pira Canning Sudham is a writer from the northeastern region of Thailand. He writes in English. He has published and republished (1) short fictions and (2) a longer work appearing as a series of novels, namely, Monsoon Country, The Force of Karma and Shadowed Country. (This series of novels, an ongoing work, is referred to as ‘the novel of Pira Canning Sudham’ in the title to this paper) This paper looks at examples of changes in the characterization of three characters (Prem, Kiang and Dani) between the publication of an early edition of Monsoon Country and the 2005 edition that brings Monsoon Country and The Force of Karma together under a single title, Shadowed Country.
