ความเชื่อและพิธีกรรมที่เกี่ยวข้องกับเจ้าแม่กวนอิมของชาวไทยเชื้อสายจีนในย่านเยาวราช

Abstract

งานวิจัยเรื่องนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความเชื่อและพิธีกรรมที่เกี่ยวข้องกับเจ้าแม่กวนอิมของชาวไทยเชื้อสายจีนในย่านเยาวราช ขอบเขตของการวิจัยคือศึกษาศาสนสถานที่มีรูปเคารพของเจ้าแม่กวนอิมทั้งหมด 3 แห่ง คือ วัดมังกรกมลาวาส มูลนิธิเทียนฟ้า และวัชรโพธิสถานมงคลธัญ โดยใช้วิธีสัมภาษณ์พูดคุยแบบอิสระกับผู้เข้าร่วมพิธี, ผู้ประกอบพิธีที่อาจเป็นทั้งพระภิกษุและฆราวาส นอกจากนี้ขณะทำงานภาคสนามก็ได้สังเกตการณ์บริเวณมณฑลพิธีและบรรยากาศขณะประกอบพิธีกรรม ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ความเชื่อที่เกี่ยวข้องกับเจ้าแม่กวนอิม จำแนกได้ 2 ประเด็น คือ (1) ความเชื่อเกี่ยวกับตำนาน เชื่อว่าเจ้าแม่กวนอิมคือ พระมหาโพธิสัตว์อวโลกิเตศวรแห่งความเมตตากรุณา สามารถช่วยเหลือผู้เดือดร้อนให้พ้นทุกข์ได้ บันดาลความเป็นสิริมงคลให้แก่ผู้ศรัทธา (2) ความเชื่อที่เกี่ยวกับความศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของเจ้าแม่กวนอิม จำแนกประเด็นได้ 5 ด้าน คือ โชคลาภ เมตตามหานิยม การรักษาโรคภัยไข้เจ็บ แคล้วคลาด และเรื่องการขอบุตร ส่วนพิธีกรรมที่เกี่ยวกับเจ้าแม่กวนอิม จำแนกได้ 2 ประเด็นคือ ( 1) พิธีกรรมเกี่ยวกับตำนานของเจ้าแม่กวนอิม (วันอาเนี้ยแซ) คนไทยเชื้อสายจีน มีการทำพิธีกรรมในวันสำคัญอย่างวันอาเนี้ยแซ ทุกคนจะถือศีลกินเจ แต่งกายด้วยชุดสีขาวเพื่อแสดงถึงความสะอาด บริสุทธิ์ แล้วมาประกอบพิธีกรรมกันที่ศาสนสถาน (2) พิธีกรรมเกี่ยวกับเทศกาล ในช่วงวันตรุษจีน วันไหว้พระจันทร์และเทศกาลกินเจ ชาวไทยเชื้อสายจีน ก็จะมีพิธีกรรมที่สำคัญเกี่ยวกับเจ้าแม่กวนอิม เช่น สวดมนต์ ปล่อยสิ่งมีชีวิต เช่น ปลา นก เป็นต้น

This research aimed to study the beliefs and rites relating to Guanyin Goddess of Thai-Chinese people in Yaowarach area. The area of study was three religious places where images of Guanyin Goddess were situated, including (1) Wat Mongkorngamalawas; (2) Tianfa Foundation; and 3) Wacharabodhisatan Mongkoltan. Study methods were informal interviews with participants of the rites and rites performers, both monks and civilians, and the area and atmosphere observations while rites were performing. The study found two Guanyin Goddess-related beliefs, which were: (1) Myth of the goddess - Thai-Chinese people believe that Guanyin Goddess was the gracious incarnation of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. The goddess could save the sufferers and bless prosperities to faithful followers. (2) Five blessings of the goddess - it is believed that Guanyin Goddess could bestow luck, charm, sickness termination, safety, and the birth of babies. For the rites relating to the goddess, two manners were found: (1) Birth myth-related rites-Thai-Chinese people would dress in white symbolling purity, eat vegetarian, and go to pray at the temples on the birthday of the goddess; and (2) festivals-related rites--on Chinese three main festivals, which are the Chinese New Year Day, the Full Moon Worship Day, and the Vegetarian Festival, Thai-Chinese people would pray to the goddess and make merits, such as freeing caught birds or fish.
