| Abstract: | Reading for main ideas and writing summaries are skills necessary for primary learning of Chinese students and important for building a foundation of knowledge development for the future. To be successful in learning communication skills, students ought to love and enjoy learning. They should not be bored and hate reading. Therefore, the instructor should prepare interesting reading materials that are appropriate to their interests. Using Thai folktales is one famous method for teaching reading for teaching reading for main ideas and writing summaries. The researchers intent was to create patterns to drill reading for main ideas and writing summary skills by using Thai folktales for Chinese students of Huachiew Chalermprakiet University for the purpose of enhancing these skills. The research shows that when students learn from 10 drill patterns to enhance these reading and writing skills by using Thai folktales, their achievement in learning is higher. The research also shows that students become more efficient at these skills. Thai folktales are tools that make reading enjoyable. Both children and adults love reading and listening to tales. Apart from readers pleasure, Thai folktales offer other advantages, such as language value by considering the use of words, proverbs, and thoughts. Thus, Thai folktales are a significant tool for instructors to apply in developing Chinese students language skills, particularly for beginners in the primary stage of Thai study, to raise their endurance, loyalty, passion, interest, and good attitudes towards the Thai language. |
