Nonverbal Communication : A Key Factor Influencing Cultural Diversity

Abstract

Nonverbal communication is important because as much as 90 percent of the social content of a message is transmitted nonverbally. Especially in intercultural communication misunderstandings often occur in the interpretations of nonverbal behaviors. An awareness of the role nonverbal play during interaction leads one to improve his/her own communication behaviors and more fully appreciate that of others.
