การวิจัยนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงสำรวจ โดยมีจุดมุ่งหมายเพื่อศึกษาประวัติความเป็นมา ลักษณะรูปแบบของศาลเจ้าจีน การจัดการ ประเพณี วัฒนธรรม พิธีกรรม และความสัมพันธ์ที่ถ่ายทอดสู่คนไทย วิธีการศึกษา ศึกษาจากเอกสาร และการสำรวจภาคสนาม ซึ่งศึกษาเกี่ยวกับโครงสร้าง การจัดการ ศิลาจารึก และประวัติความเป็นมา ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1. ชาวจีนในประเทศไทยมีความยึดมั่นในความเชื่อทางศาสนาเหมือนท้องถิ่นเดิม เช่น ลัทธิเต๋า ศาสนาพุทธ และศาสนาดั้งเดิมมีการไหว้เทวดาหลายรูป เทวรูปที่ไหว้นั้นมีความแตกต่างจากประเทศจีนแผ่นดินใหญ่ เพราะประสมสิ่งแวดล้อมไม่เหมือนกัน 2. มีการกระจายขยายขอบเขตชุมชนจีน พบได้จากการกระจายของศาลเจ้าจีน ชื่อของศาลเจ้าจะทำให้ทราบสังกัดมณฑลหรือสมาคม ศาลเจ้าที่มีมากที่สุดและมีประวัติเกือบ 200 ปี จะอยู่ในบริเวณเยาวราชหรือไชน่าทาวน์ ส่วนศาลเจ้าจีนที่สร้างขึ้นใหม่จะอยู่รอบๆ บริเวณไชน่าทาวน์ 3. สิ่งก่อสร้างต่างๆ ในศาลเจ้าจีน เช่น ป้ายชื่อ สิงห์โต ระฆัง เทวรูป เสาหิน ได้นำมาจากประเทศจีน คำโคลงต่างๆ เป็นของเก่าที่เขียนในประเทศจีน แสดงให้เห็นถึงความสัมพันธ์ของชาวจีนในประเทศไทยกับบ้านเกิดเดิมที่ต้องการอนุรักษ์วัฒนธรรมเดิมไว้ 4. ศาลเจ้าจีนในกรุงเทพฯ มีสัญลักษณ์ของลัทธิเต๋า และพุทธศาสนา แสดงให้เห็นถึงการผสมผสานกันทางวัฒนธรรมระหว่าง จีนและไทย ตัวอย่างเช่นพิธีกรรมที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการทำบุญ
This study is a survey research. The purposes were to study the history, model of Chinese temple, management, tradition, culture, ceremony and the relationship which related to Thai people. The method of the study consists of documentary survey and field survey. The field survey studied about structure, management, letters in the temples and history. Results of the study revealed that: 1. The Chinese people in Thailand believed in local religion e.g. Toaw, Buddishm and Original religions. They worshiped many idols. These idols were difference from China because of different environment. 2. Chinese community had dispersed to the other such as dispersive of Chinese temples. The name of temples will tell us about province or association. The most Chinese temples and almost 200 years old located at Yaowaraj or China town. The new Chinese temples located around the China town. 3. The material in the Chinese temples such as plank of names, lions, bells, idols, stone columns, were brought from China. The old poetries were wrote in China. These show that Chinese people in Thailand want to conservative their original culture. 4. The symbol of temples in Bangkok are Toaw and Buddishm. These appear the mixture of Chinese and Thai culture e.g. The ceremony of merit making.
