ผลิตภัณฑ์จากธรรมชาติจำนวน 15 ชนิด ถูกนำมาทำการทดสอบประสิทธิภาพในการยับยั้งการเจริญของเชื้อที่แยกจากสิวอักเสบ 4 ชนิดที่แตกต่างกัน รวม 12 ไอโซเลต จากกลุ่มตัวอย่างทั้งหมด 30 คน พบทุกไอโซเลตเป็นแบคทีเรียแกรมบวก รูปร่างกลม เมื่อทำการทดสอบความสามารถในการยับยั้งการเจริญของเชื้อด้วยวิธี Agar well diffusion พบมีผลิตภัณฑ์ธรรมชาติ 5 ชนิด แสดงประสิทธิภาพในการยับยั้งการเจริญของเชื้อได้ทุกไอโซเลต โดยน้ำกระเทียมน้ำมะขามเปียก และน้ำมะนาว แสดงความสามารถในการยับยั้งเชื้อได้ดีที่สุด ส่วนดินสอพอง นมสด และน้ำปูนใส ไม่สามารถยับยั้งการเจริญของเชื้อทุกไอโซเลตเมื่อนำผลิตภัณฑ์จากธรรมชาติสูตรผสมมาทดสอบพบว่าสูตรน้ำมะเขือเทศผสมน้ำมะนาว และน้ำมะขามเปียกผสมนมสด แสดงประสิทธิภาพที่ดีในการยับยั้งการเจริญของเชื้อทุกไอโซเลต ส่วนผลิตภัณฑ์พอกหน้าเพื่อรักษาสิวที่มีจำหน่ายในท้องตลาด 3 ชนิดพบว่ามีเพียงชนิดเดียวที่สามารถยับยั้งเชื้อได้เพียงร้อยละ 50 ของจำนวนไอโซเลตทั้งหมด ส่วนอีก 2 ชนิดไม่สามารถยับยั้งเชื้อได้ เมื่อทดสอบความไวของเชื้อต่อยาปฏิชีวนะจำนวน 10 ชนิด ด้วยเทคนิค Agar disc diffusion พบว่า Imipenem, Gentamicin, Novobiocin, Trimethoprim และ Ampicillin สามารถยับยั้งการเจริญของเชื้อที่แยกจากสิวได้ทุกไอโซเลต โดย Imipenem มีประสิทธิภาพดีที่สุด
Antibacterial activities of 15 natural products against 12 isolates of bacteria from 4 types of acne (30 patients) were investigated in this study. All bacteria isolated were gram positive cocci. Results from agar well diffusion test revealed that five natural products could inhibit growth of all isolates. Among the natural products, garlic juice, tamarind juice and lime juice had the highest inhibition efficiency. On the other hand, chalk clay, fresh milk and lime water had no inhibition on all isolates. Mixture of tomato and lime juices and mixture of tamarind and milk had strongly inhibition on isolated bacteria. Moreover, with three commercial acne face mask product, there was only one product that could inhibit 50 percent of total bacterial isolated while other two products had no activity. Finally, antibiotic susceptibility test was investigated by agar disc diffusion method. It was found that all of the bacterial isolates could be inhibited by Imipenem, Gentamicin, Novobiocin, Trimethoprim and Ampicillin. Among these antibiotics tested, Imipenem was the most effective microbial agent.
