การวิเคราะห์การแปลภาพพจน์ของนักศึกษวิชาเอกภาษาอังกฤษ มหาวิทยาลัยหัวเฉียวเฉลิมพระเกียรติในรายวิชาหลักการแปล 1 และหลักการแปล 2

Abstract

การวิเคราะห์การแปลภาพพจน์ของนักศึกษาวิชาเอกภาษาอังกฤษ ในรายวิชาหลักการแปล 1 และหลักการแปล 2 มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อวิเคราะห์กลวิธีการแปลภาพพจน์ และวัดระดับความสามารถด้านภาษาอังกฤษ ภาษาไทย และด้านการแปลของนักศึกษาวิชาเอกภาษาอังกฤษที่ลงทะเบียนเรียนในรายวิชาหลักการแปล 1 และหลักการแปล 2 ในปีการศึกษา 2554 รวมทั้งเพื่อจัดประเภทของภาพพจน์ที่พบในแบบฝึกหัดและข้อสอบในรายวิชาหลักการแปล 1 และหลักการแปล 2 ในปีการศึกษา 2554 ผลการศึกษาพบว่าแบบฝึกหัดและข้อสอบในรายวิชาหลักการแปล 1 และหลักการแปล 2 ในปีการศึกษา 2554 มีการใช้ภาพพจน์ 5 ประเภท ตามการแบ่งประเภทของ เมอร์เรย์ โนว์เลส และโรซามุนต์ มูน คือ อุปมา อุปลักษณ์ บุคลาธิษฐาน นามนัย และอุปลักษณ์สามัญ โดยมีสื่อเปรียบที่เป็นคำศัพท์ทางวัฒนธรรม 3 ประเภท คือ นิเวศวิทยา วัตถุ และสังคม นอกจากนี้ ผู้วิจัยยังพบว่า นักศึกษาได้ใช้กลวิธีการแปลภาพพจน์ 3 วิธี คือ การแปลโดบใช้ภาพพจน์ การแปลโดยไม่ใช้ภาพพจน์ และการแปลโดยใช้สำนวนไทย ซึ่งการแปล โดยใช้ภาพพจน์แบ่งออกเป็นสองวิธีย่อย คือ การแปลเป็นภาพพจน์ประเภทเดี่ยวกับต้นฉบับและการแปลเป็นภาพพจน์ประเภทอื่น กลวิธีการแปลที่นักศึกษาส่วนใหญ่ใช้คือ การแปลเป็นภาพพจน์ประเภทเดียวกับต้นฉบับ รองลงมาคือ การแปลเป็นภาพพจน์ ประเภทอื่น และการแปลโดยใช้สำนวนไทย ตามลำดับ นอกจากนักศึกษาส่วนใหญ่จะแปลภาพพจน์โดยยึดตามประเภทของภาพพจน์ในต้นฉบับแล้ว ก็ยังคงรักษาความหมานของภาพพจน์ไว้ตรงตามต้นฉบับอีกด้วย ซึ่งบ่งบอกว่านักศึกษาส่วนใหญ่มีระดับความสามารถทางภาษาอังกฤษและภาษาไทยในระดับที่ดี

The objectives of this qualitative research are to study and analyze the techniques of translating figurative language by English major students in Principles of Translation I and II classes, to evaluate their English and Thai language skills, and to categorize figurative language found in assignments and exams in the two classes in academic year 2011. According to the findings, there were 5 devices of figurative language which were categorized by Murray Knowles and Rosamund Moon, used in the assignments and exams-simile, metaphor, personification, metonymy, and conventional. In addition, vehicles were used in the figurative language in 3 categories of cultural words, including ecological, material, and social words. The English major students used the following techniques of translating figurative language from English into Thai and from Thai into English: translating into figurative language, translating into non-figurative language, and translating into Thai saying. In addition, translating into figurative language is categorized into 2 sub-techniques-translating into the same category of figurative language and translating into different categories of figurative language. It was found that the students mostly translated figurative language by translating into the same category of figurative language. Obviously, the students did not only maintain the original figurative language, but also conveyed the same meaning in the translated version that indicates their good level of English and Thai language skills.
