ความกตัญญูของชาวจีนที่สะท้อนผ่านพิธีกงเต็ก : กรณีศึกษาพิธีกงเต็กจีนไหหลำในสังคมไทย

Abstract

รายงานการวิจัยเรื่องความกตัญญูของชาวจีนที่สะท่อนผ่านพิธีกงเต๊ก : กรณีศึกษาพิธีกงเต๊กจีนไหหลำในสังคมไทย เป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ศึกษาทั้งจากเอกสารและภาคสนาม โดยมีความมุ่งหมายให้ทราบถึงความคิด โลกทัศน์ของการแสดงความกตัญญูของชาวจีนผ่านพิธีกงเต๊กจีนไหหลำ โดยใช้วิธีสัมภาษณ์ พูดคุย และการสังเกตการณ์อย่างมีส่วนร่วม จากผู้รู้ ผู้ประกอบพิธี ผู้เกี่ยวข้องตลอดจนผู้เข้าร่วมพิธีกรรม ณ สถานที่ประกอบพิธีกรรมจริงๆ คือ ศาลาบำเพ็ญกุศล ในวัดและสถานที่พำนักของผู้ประกอบพิธีกรรม ผลจาการวิจัยพบว่า พิธีกงเต๊กจีนไหหลำในสังคมไทย มีลักษณะเนื้อหาที่สะท้อนถึงคุณธรรมกตัญญู ทั้งในส่วนของเครื่องแต่งกายลูกหลานที่เข้าร่วมพิธี หรือขั้นตอนต่างๆ ของพิธีกรรม โดยเฉพาะพิธีแก้กรรมให้ผู้ตาย การจำลองเหตุการณ์หลังความตายในรูปของการแสดงงิ้ว (Chinese Opera) เป็นการเชื่อมโยงโลกของคนตายกับโลกของคนเป็น ให้ลูกหลานได้รู้เห็นเหตุการณ์ที่ผู้ตายเผชิญในสิ่งดีๆ ก่อให้เกิดความรู้สึกอบอุ่นใจ เป็นการชดเชยอารมณ์พลัดพราก สูญเสีย อย่างไรก็ดีพิธีกงเต๊กจีนไหหลำ น่าจะมีแนวโน้มลดบทบาทลง เพราะลูกหลานชาวจีนส่วนใหญ่อยู่ในสิ่งแวดล้อมที่เป็นวิถีไทย โดยเฉพาะสังคมในเมืองซึ่งเป็นลักษณะสากลมากขึ้น แต่หากได้มีการปรับเปลี่ยนพิธีกรรมให้ลูกหลานซาบซึ้งหรือเข้าใจคุณค่า ความหมายมากขึ้น พิธีกรรมดังกล่าวก็น่าจะใช้เป็นประโยชน์ต่อการสร้างโลกทัศน์ การสร้างสายสัมพันธ์ของคนในหมู่เครือญาติได้เป็นอย่างดี โดยเฉพาะในสังคมปัจจุบัน ซึ่งให้ความสำคัญต่อความเจริญทางวัตถุจนละเลยคุณค่าทางจิตใจ

This study, A Case Study of Hainanese Funeral Rituals in Thai Society, examined attitudes relating to gratitude among the ethnic Chinese, as reflected in their funeral rituals. It was qualitative research drawn from both documentation and practical observation in the field. The purpose of this study was to broaden understanding of the concepts, ideas, and visions of the ethnic Chinese through an analysis of Hainanese funeral rituals. The instrument used in the study was participatory observation by experienced persons, deacons and laymen involved in the activities and rituals, including the participants in the rituals. The results revealed that Hainanese funeral rituals in Thai society reflected a mental attitude of appreciation and respect toward the deceased. This is demonstrated by both the clothing traditionally worn by the participants during the funeral ceremony and the customs and rituals, especially the rituals to express atonement for the sins of the deceased. A Chinese opera is performed to portray the life of the deceased. The opera illustrates the integration of the deceased’s pre- and post-death experience for the survivors in order to reinforce and amplify the ethnic Chinese worldview and attitudes toward death. During these operas, the younger generations can perceive that the deceased has encountered positive experiences following death. The empathy and warm positive feelings generated during the opera help the survivors of the deceased feel compensated for their bereavement. However, the current trend is a decline in the role of the Hainanese funeral rituals in ethnic Chinese-Thai society. This may possibly be because most ethnic Chinese live in a conventional, mainstream Thai environment. This environment increases their involvement in the modern worldwide culture. Adoption of these rituals by appreciative younger generations may be influential in developing their values and vision. Observance of these rituals would also serve to strengthen family relationships. Consequently, these relationships would improve the values and attitudes of individuals who are too involved in the current materialistic civilization, and neglect mental attitudes of appreciation and respect.
