从《四朝代》看泰国社会历史的演变

Abstract

《四朝代》是克立•巴莫最孚盛名的作品，通过一个贵族女子珀怡的一生展现了曼谷王朝五世王到八世王（1868-1946）。几十年间的社会生活。小说写了发展在泰国的重大历史事件，皇宫的礼仪和习尚，以及西方影响所导致的社会变迁。本论文主要分析了作品中三个年龄相仿而不同身世，不同性格和不同的归宿。试图揭示泰国社会的历史演变。本论文从作者的家世、生平和文学创作入手，分析研究了《四朝代》所反映的历史背景，小说中的主要人物，贵族家庭和宫廷的变化与演变，主要通过女主人公珀怡的人生经历，探讨了作品与泰国社会历史演变的有机联系与深广的社会政治和文化背景。“从对作品的具体分析中，我们可以看到小说中所反映的皇朝，国家、政体对泰国社会发展的影响，特别是从作品中可见泰国社会发展中封建社会的解体，民主制度的兴起，皇族的衰落与历史的进步和发展。本论文的研究意义在于通过对《四朝代》中女主人公的心路历程，揭示泰国四个朝代的演变、以及这部文学作品与泰国社会历史演变的内在关系，探讨作品的文学价值与社会价值。通过分析，我们可以看到《四朝代》在艺术上的最大成功是塑造了一批具有浓重时代色彩的人物群象，写出了他们在特定历史条件下和特定环境中形成的性格，写出了他们不同的命运和遭遇。

นวนิยายเรื่อง “สี่แผ่นดิน” เป็นผลงานยอดเยี่ยมของม.ร.ว.คึกฤทธิ์ ปราโมชผู้เขียนได้จินตนาการตัวละครให้มีบุคลิกลักษณะและบทบาทแตกต่างกันไปเพื่อสะท้อนขนบธรรมเนียม ประเพณี วัฒนธรรมและชีวิตความเป็นอยู่ของคนในสังคมไทย ตลอดจนเบื้องหลังการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางประวัติศาสตร์และการเมืองการปกครองไทยเมื่อครั้งถูกอิทธิพลของชาวตะวันตกได้แผ่ขยายเข้าสู่ประเทศไทยตั้งแต่สมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว(รัชกาลที่5)จนถึงสมัยสิ้นแผ่นดินพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวอานันทมหิดล(รัชกาลที่8)โดยการนำเอาวิถีชีวิตและชะตากรรมของตัวละครเอก “ แม่พลอย ” เป็นตัวนำของนวนิยายไปสู่เหตุการณ์ต่างๆที่เกิดขึ้นในยุคสี่แผ่นดินด้วยคุณประโยชน์ของนวนิยายเรื่อง“สี่แผ่นดิน”ที่มีต่อสังคมไทยซึ่งเป็นแบบอย่างวรรณกรรมอันทรงคุณค่าทางปัญญาให้ทั้งความบันเทิงและความรู้เกี่ยวกับสังคมและประวัติศาสตร์ไทยให้เห็นภาพการล่มสลายของสังคมระบอบศักดินาและการปกครองระบอบสมบูรณาญาสิทธิราชย์รวมทั้งการพัฒนาไปสู่ระบอบประชาธิปไตยอันมีพระมหากษัตริย์เป็นประมุขจากการวิเคราะห์นวนิยายเรื่อง“สี่แผ่นดิน”จะเห็นได้ว่าความสำเร็จอันยิ่งใหญ่ของผู้ประพันธ์ ม.ร.ว.คึกฤทธิ์ ปราโมช อยู่ที่การใช้ศิลปะในการสร้างตัวละครให้มีบทบาทเข้มข้น สามารถสะท้อนภาพต่างๆได้อย่างชัดเจนเหตุการณ์และการเปลี่ยนแปลงต่างๆนี้ เป็นเรื่องที่ประวัติศาสตร์ต้องจารึกไว้ จึงเป็นสิ่งที่อนุชนรุ่นต่อมาได้ทราบ แต่สิ่งที่ประวัติศาสตร์มิได้จารึกไว้ก็คือ รายละเอียดเกี่ยวกับชีวิตและความเป็นอยู่ตลอดจนความคิดเห็นของคนที่ต้องประสบกับเหตุการณ์ของการเปลี่ยนแปลงนั้นๆ เพราะรายละเอียดเล็กๆน้อยๆแห่งชีวิตย่อมเป็นมูลฐานของความคิดเห็นและการทำให้บุคคลเกิดปฏิกิริยาแตกต่างกันไปในเมื่อเหตุการณ์หรือการเปลี่ยนแปลงใดๆมากระทบตัว เราก็จะสามารถเข้าใจ และแยกแยะได้ ด้วยเหตุผลดังกล่าวผู้เขียนจึงมีเจตนาที่จะให้นวนิยายเรื่อง “สี่แผ่นดิน” เป็นที่รวบรวมรายละเอียดเบื้องหลังประวัติศาสตร์ต่างๆเหล่านี้ไว้อีกด้านหนึ่งถ้าหากจะเปรียบเหตุการณ์สำคัญๆที่เกิดขึ้นนั้นเป็นลายโครงบนผืนผ้าลายไทย ผู้เขียนมีเจตนาให้หนังสือเรื่อง“สี่แผ่นดิน”เป็นลายประกอบเพื่อจะได้ทำผ้าลายผืนนั้นให้มีลวดลายเต็มขึ้น และวิจิตรพิสดารยิ่งขึ้น

The novel “Si Phaendin” (Four Reigns) is an outstanding work and accomplishment of Professor Major General M.R. Kukrit Pramoj. He was a savant who was very talented and had intimate knowledge. M.R. Kukrit Pramoj had the ability to create imaginative stories to illustrate Thai tradition, and culture effortlessly in his writing. In “Si Phaendin”, the author had created many characters that have different roles and characteristics to reflect the way of life and times of people in those eras. “Si Phaedin” is a novel that has tremendous value to Thai society, since it provides intelligence, entertainment and knowledge about their history, culture and customs. In addition, it presents the stories behind the sequences of changes in Thailand. It spans from the time that the West began spreading their influence on the country during the Reign of King Rama V (King Chulalongkorn) until the final period of King Rama VIII (King Ananda Mahidol). In this novel, “Mae Phloi” is the leading character that leads the readers through the different scenes of Thailand during these four different reigns.Admittedly, “Si Phaendin” is the only novel that describes the details of Life in the Palace in almost every aspect. It also narrates the most details of the inner zone of the Royal Palace in the past to Thai people of this generation. “Mae Phloi” has the role of a person that lived her life both inside and outside of the Palace. The thoughts and feeling of the people of that generation were represented through this character's role very clearly and consistently. The story was delicately written with authenticity. The use of language in the dialog, personalities and costumes of all characters are very realistic. There is a meaningful comparison between two characters of the same age in the novel that play very distinct diverse roles. On one hand, “Mae Phloi” is a decent woman who always holds herself in the manner of a “proper Thai Lady” displaying virtue, loyalty, sincerity, compassion and dependability. She has pure affection for her husband, selfless love without jealousy. She treats all of her children with kindness and equality. Conversely , “Mae Choy” is completely opposite from “Mae Phloi” in both personality and thought. At the end, the novel portrays the very different final outcome for these two characters. “Mae Phloi” who dedicates herself to the benefit of her family, lives happily with her good husband in her warm family for the entirety of her life. In contrast, “Mae Choy” lives a solitary life from the beginning until the end. The moral is simply that one can have a great life or a terrible life, and that it all rests on the persons behavior and personality choices.“Si Phaendin” is a novel that is applauded by scholars from numerous fields including litterateurs, historians and critics. In fact, it is fair to say that “Si Phaendin” is recognized by readers from all levels and backgrounds. It is a historical novel that has been translated to more than 5 languages. Even now it is difficult to find other novels that come close to the quality this novel possesses. “Si Phaendin” illustrates the beauty of Thai culture and their way of life through the art of literature. Even among foreign readers, it is widely accepted as an extraordinary Thai novel, and among Thailand's best. For the author, M.R. Kukrit Pramoj, this novel is considered his masterpiece. The author's objective in writing this novel was to capture the background and details of various events that occurred in Thailand during the Reign of King Rama V until the Reign of King Rama VIII. Although these historic events are well-known and are already recorded in the history of the Thai nation, they were not without omissions. There were no details about life and the ways of the living, and did not include the thoughts of the people who lived through these historical events. These details give us insight into their ideology and form a basis by which we can understand why one person reacts differently from another when faced with similar circumstances. It is quite obvious that the author intended for this novel to be a source of information that documents the hidden details of Thai people behind the written history. If we could compare all these key incidences that happened as patterns on Thai traditional cloth. The author meant for “Si Phaendin” to be one of the patterns that helps to make the cloth more beautiful and more refined.
